String materials
Badminton strings are nearly all nylon multifilament; in tennis the material makes a big difference to feel and to your arm.
Badminton
Almost all are nylon multifilament; they differ in thickness and coating, which changes repulsion, sound and durability. The ratings in the string guide cover it.
Tennis
- Polyester (“poly”): control, spin and durability, but stiff, loses tension fast and is hard on the arm — for advanced players with fast swings. Usually strung a little lower than soft strings.
- Multifilament: comfortable and lively, close to natural gut — for sensitive arms or anyone who likes a soft feel.
- Synthetic gut: affordable and balanced, a good start for beginners.
- Natural gut: the best feel, power and tension hold, but pricey and dislikes damp.
Hybrids
A stiff string in the mains (control, spin) with a soft one in the crosses (comfort). Turn on “hybrid” when booking to choose each.
