String thickness (gauge)
Thinner strings are livelier and louder but wear out sooner; thicker ones last longer.
Badminton (0.61–0.70 mm)
- 0.61–0.65 mm, thin: lively, crisp sound, great feel, but break sooner.
- 0.66–0.68 mm, medium: a balance of repulsion and durability — what most players use.
- 0.69–0.70 mm, thick: the most durable, good for beginners and frequent breakers.
Tennis (1.15–1.35 mm)
Often given as a gauge number — the higher, the thinner: 16 is about 1.30 mm, 17 about 1.20 mm. Thinner gives more spin and feel, thicker lasts longer.
Squash (1.10–1.30 mm)
Same idea: thinner for feel, thicker for durability.
How to choose
- You break strings often → go thicker.
- You want feel, sound or spin → go thinner.
- Not sure → medium is the safe choice.
