Broken strings & racket care
A broken string is no drama — handle it right and the frame stays safe.
Why strings break
- Age and wear (most common).
- Mishits near the frame.
- Tension too high, or a string too thin.
- The racket hitting the floor, a post or another racket.
When one breaks
- Cut out the rest soon: from the centre outwards, alternating mains and crosses, so the frame isn’t pulled out of shape.
- Don’t keep playing with a broken string.
- Not sure how? Bring it in and we’ll do it.
Everyday care
- Don’t leave your racket in a hot car — heat drains tension and can harm the frame.
- Keep it in its cover when you’re not playing.
- Check the frame and grommets for cracks or wear now and then — we photograph your racket at drop-off too.
